2009 International Choanoflagellate Workshop
In April 2002, the 1st international workshop focused on choanoflagellate biology was held at the University of Reading. There were 12 scientists in attendance.
Over the past several years, the study of choanoflagellates has yielded important advances in fields as diverse as ecology, evolution, biomechanics, cell biology, genomics, and taxonomy. By bringing together researchers from these disparate fields, we hope to establish choanoflagellates as a powerful new model system and contribute to the growth of an interactive and dynamic scientific community.
We hope you will attend and we encourage you to present your latest findings at the:

Travel Arrangements
Visitors may fly into the Oakland (OAK) or San Francisco (SFO) airports.
We suggest taking the BART (subway) to the Downtown Berkeley stop and then walking through the university campus to the Berkeley Faculty Club. From SFO, BART departs roughly every 15 minutes, and the one hour trip costs $5.90 each way. From OAK, first board the $3 AirBART shuttle bus to Coliseum BART station. From Coliseum station, BART trains depart roughly every 15 minutes, and the trip costs $2.20 each way, taking 22 minutes. Interactive Google Maps walking directions from the Downtown Berkeley Bart station to the Faculty Club can be found here.
More convenient transportation options are the BayPorter Express ($25 – 32 one-way) or a yellow cab (available at the airport, $60 – 75 one way, before tip).
A map of the Berkeley campus can be downloaded here.
We continue to seek funding for travel grants, and will provide updates if more funding becomes available.
Please contact us with any questions you may have. We look forward to meeting all of you in June.
Sincerely,
Daniel Richter and Stephen Fairclough
